Engineered wood flooring is identical to a solid floor on the surface, but instead of a single wood plank, it's made of a high-quality plywood with a thin layer of 3mm ,4, or 6mm hardwood timber on top. Engineered wood flooring is a more affordable option.
Engineered wood Floor has a real wood top layer and doesn't expand and contract to the same extent as a Solid Wood Floor. It can be sanded and re-finished and comes in a wide range of species, grades and finishes. It allows for a wider board and is suitable for use with under floor heating
An oiled finish soaks into the face of the timber for a more natural look and can be patch repaired if scuffed or marked.
A lacquered finsh in most circumstances is more durable but can not be patch repaired, the whole floor would need to be sanded and resealed if marked or damaged.
A lot of floors can be sanded and re-finished to make them look brand new, but depending on how they were fixed it's most unlikely they could be uplifted and re-laid. Unwanted floors can be desposed of at your local authority recycling centre.
A 10 year strucural warranty is available on the construction of the board, subject to the product been fitted in accordance with the manufactures instructions.
A Solid wood floor is one single piece of wood profiled into a t&g board, where as an Engineered Board is a constructed board with a real wood top layer.
